I was pleased to hear that the Oldland mill granary conversion application was turned down on Thursday night. It was very close and we seemed to be losing until the very end when there was a surprise turnaround.

The owners of Oldland Mill House had submitted two applications entitled “Alterations to create ancillary accommodation for guests or staff.” They pointed out that the building in question was Oldland Mill Granary and Oldland Windmill is Grade II-listed. It had been assumed that the Granary was within the curtilage of the mill for restoration purposes. The Granary is believed to be about 140 years old, probably being constructed at the time of the 1873 major mill refurbishment.
The proposed conversion was thus a shock to Oldland Mill Trust who are no doubt pleased with the decision .
