HB Sketches no. 731. Satirical cartoon relating to the corn laws, and referencing Aesop’s fable, ‘The Frogs Who Desired a King’. In the fable the frogs ask Zeus for a king and are given a log, which they reject. They are then given a stork who eats them. Here the stork represents prime minister Robert Peel, and the frogs he is eating are labelled ‘Chartism’, ‘Landed Interest’ and ‘Corn Law League’.
