Satirical cartoon relating to the corn laws, and referencing the opera ‘Bombastes Furioso’, in which the mad General Bombastes hangs his boots from a tree and vows to fight anyone who removes them. Here the boots are labelled ‘Corn Laws’ and ‘Sugar duties’, and General Bombastes presumably represents prime minister William Lamb.
