We are very sorry to announce that Derek passed away on 26 June. He was diagnosed with cancer some years ago and bravely made light of his illness.
Derek was a trustee of the Mills Archive from 2004 until his retirement in August 2015. As a trustee he helped us enormously with the Frank Gregory Collection and was very committed to our success.
An author of books on the watermills of Surrey and of Sussex, with an abiding interest in the watermills of Scotland, he was working up a book on Dorset for a Mills Archive Research Publication. He was a staunch friend of the Archive and the mill world has lost a gentle and unassuming enthusiast.
We will miss him enormously, his enthusiasm and commitment to watermills was infectious and he has left a fitting memorial in the development of the Mills Archive.
