The Garden Party is approaching!

Hello everyone, just a reminder to tell you that the Friends’ Garden Party is happening on Saturday 13th June. Earlier this week, I sat on the steps in the garden of the Mills Archive for lunch. There was not a cloud in sight and the flowers have now bloomed into enormous red and yellow tulips! I have never seen tulips grow this big and when I mentioned this to Mildred she told me that they must be ‘happy flowers’! We have also got some new apple and pear trees and three new benches.

As I briefly mentioned previously in the ‘Mill Memories’ blog, the staff are opening up some of the rooms in order to display a range of exhibitions. Sean Holman will be returning this year with several models such as a Whitmore & Binyon steam engine and Corporate Friend Brendan Barrow of eWaterpower will be providing a working model of an Archimedean Screw. There will be displays of some of the collections and items the Mills Archive has rescued. There will also be a range of antiquarian books available to look at and, of course, a buffet.

Here is a picture of Sean Holmwood’s steam engine models and the eWaterpower Archimedean Screw model:

The Garden Party is a great opportunity to have a wander around the beautiful garden and chat to some of the staff who work and volunteer to expand the archives and make it more involved with the public. It is a great opportunity to meet old and new friends and gain a little insight into what the team do here each day in order to provide useful information for the catalogue and the party also gives you the opportunity to see some of the collections the staff have been working on. I hope you can all make it and I look forward to seeing you there!
