Correspondence on back reads “Dear Wailles, I do not know of you have seen this mill-it is a poor photograph. Do you know Broxted Mill between Thaxted and Stansted? It is a fairly complete post mill out of use. Gt Sampford mill, the other side of Thaxted was apparently a smock mill, but only a stump remains. We had a very good time, with better weather than they had at home here. Probably you will be too to see me before you go away, but I hope to get to one or two more mills before you return.
