The seventh item of this Sub – Series is an illustration printed on a piece of card of Newark Mill in Ripley in Surrey. The card was published by The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings at its headquarters of 55 Great Ormond Street. The illustration was drawn by Kenneth C. Reid. A description is printed on the back of the card informing us that “Among Surrey watermills, Newark takes pride of place. It stands on the River Wey and marks the site of a mill recorded in Domesday and also the one given in the 13th century to the neighbouring Newark Priory.” It proceeds to tell us that the watermill was “used as a grist mill up to 1952 and the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings intends, if the need arises, to make every effort to ensure its future preservation.” There is no recorded date of production. However, the evidence that we do have suggests that this card was produced after 1952.
