The book is devoted to the surviving 71 mills in Schleswig, Holstein and Hamburg. The introductory pages cover the construction and technology of windmills, the regulations covering ownership and leasing of mills in Schleswig-Holstein and customs connected with mills.
The bulk of the book describes each mill, generally with one or two pages devoted to their history, tenants and technology.There is a black-and-white photo of each mill described, and also a few drawings and a labelled diagram of a mill cross-section.
