Whilst cataloguing a volume from the Kent Mills Group, I found the reproduction of a drawing showing 86 oxen pulling a post mill. The inscription records it as being moved on the 28th March 1797, 217 years ago today!
The caption claims it is Jill Mill being moved to Clayton and it is placed within the volume with photos of this mill; however, after a bit more research here at the archive we found that Jill Mill was actually moved in 1852. Our drawing instead records a post mill being moved from Regency Square to Preston. What a coincidence I should have found it today!
