The location of a vanished watermill called Lake Mill, together with a vanished weir, silted old mill stream and leats, has been decided.
See here for an up-to-date web page and index.
Help is needed to search for the weir remnants under the Dorset Stour, and to dig for mill remains near the A31. Permission of the landowner has been obtained.
The old mill stream makes a fine walk on NT land, enclosing a 100-acre island meadow (Eyemead), showing an impressive ox-bow.
Eyemead was once part of the Bankes estate, now the Kingston Lacy estate, considered the “Jewel in the Crown” of the National Trust.
