Kent Mills Society – Notice of Closure

Author: KMS Committee

As already announced to our membership, we are closing the Kent Mills Society with immediate effect.

Although we were prepared to carry on after the recent death of our Chairman, Geoff Holman, we could not attract any local people to lead the Society. This is a huge disappointment  to us; in the decade since the closure of the original Kent Mills Group, there were a number of calls to re-launch a regional mills group. Nevertheless, as some other groups have found, success is dependent on active local involvement.

Our meetings were well attended and our newsletter, Cant Post, was of high quality. Paper copies of the first three issues are available from the Mills Archive Shop and a fourth will be produced as a PDF. Anyone wishing to receive a copy of the final issue, should email the editor at kentmillssoc@aol.com . Rob will also keep this email address open for correspondence and random free updates as an email only contact group for interested parties.

At a later date we will make all four issues of Cant Post available as downloadable PDFs on the Mills Archive site. Our final accounts are to be found in the related article below, which shows that all the £162 donated by members for our restoration fund will be donated to the Mill Repair Fund of the SPAB Mills Section. The remaining £424 will be transferred to the Mills Archive to support their work on Kent Mills.
