The need
Critical records of renewable energy innovation not yet in our care are at risk. Without immediate action, this knowledge could be lost forever. We continue to raise funds to preserve and share history, but the need is growing and we need your help.
The opportunity
We need to raise an additional £20,000 annually to:
- Rescue threatened collections before they are lost.
- Digitise archives for free global access.
- Create educational resources for the next generation of innovators.
The Mills Archive Trust is an educational charity dedicated to saving, bringing together and opening up the records of renewable energy.
We preserve hundreds of years of history, from historic solutions to modern needs —knowledge we must make accessible to the public forever.
So far, 3 million physical and 100,000 digitised records are available to the 130,000 people who access our digital resources every year. Many more renewable energy collections – covering historical activities and more recent developments – are at risk. We are regularly called upon to provide assistance, expertise and in some cases a safe home for such collections, such as David Elliott’s collection, which you can read about here.
Only with your financial support can we save new renewable energy-related archival collections and reveal the origins of the machines that power our lives today. Collections like that of wind energy pioneer and offshore wind farm advocate, Dr. Peter Musgrove.
How you can help
To save and share these collections not yet in our care, we need a minimum of £20,000 per year. With your support, we will care for renewable energy archives, from rescue to making them permanently available to the communities they have shaped. Preservation is an ongoing task, so we are particularly looking for enduring support such as annual donations.
Every contribution ensures vital knowledge survives to inspire today’s generations for tomorrow’s climate solutions. In the longer term, we seek an endowment to provide these services forever. We welcome anyone considering a significant contribution to get in touch.
