Neg 02 Weight on ‘striking chain’ for patent sails. If the wind becomes too strong, the shutters in the sweeps open a little to ‘spill’ the surplus wind so as to prevent the mill from going too fast. The weight re-closes the shutters when the wind speed drops again. This is an early form of automatic speed control.
