167 colour photographs of over 50 watermills in their surroundings taken by two enthusiasts who set themselves the task of discovering the remaining mills in West Germany in the late 1970s; some mills shown on maps no longer existed, others which did exist were not on the maps.Many of the photos are accompanied by poems; the text describes the authors’ search and thoughts about mills, references to mills in literature and general descriptions of the history of mills and how they work. Small black-and-white photos at the end of the book give the names and locations of the mills in the colour photos of the main section.
