Saxtead Green Post Mill Suffolk; History, Technology and Conservation

These Research Notes on the History, Technology and Conservation of Saxtead Green Post Mill have been commissioned by the English Heritage Curatorial Department. They provide an account of the history and working life of a key component of our industrial past and describe the circumstances and efforts that have resulted in its long-term preservation.

Saxtead Green Post Mill is one of the UK’s outstanding windmills and an important local landmark. A Scheduled Monument and a Grade ll* listed building, it was the first windmill in the country to be acquired ‘for the nation’ and fully restored to working order.
