Watercolour painting of Purwell mill on a piece of card. The village of Purwell is situated near to the market town of Hitchin in Hertfordshire. The date is recorded at the bottom of the watercolour in the centre as “15.4.46” and the initials of E M Gardner can be found in the bottom right hand corner. A handwritten note on the back states that “Purwell Mill, Hitchin, ceased grinding in the year 1931”.
