Volume 1 was published in 1930 and written by M.I.Batten covering windmills in Kent, Surrey and Sussex and Volume 2 was published in 1932, written by Donald Smith covering windmills in Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and London.

Both books contain a history of the origins and development of the windmills in the areas covered.
