Following storm damage in January 1978. “Pieces of wood had been placed in the bin floor to help try and stop the sails turning, presumably between the brake wheel spokes. The sails broke loose, and the pieces of wood were flung around, making holes in the roof and smashing up the fixtures. The Council had had sheets of polythene fixed over the worst holes- right side of the roof and right front gable (as seen). These quickly ripped apart and flapped. A little later the Council wired pieces of hardboard over most of the holes” – Sue Burden
