NotesBorn c 1834 in Steep. Bought the mills in 1868 following the destruction by fire of King's Mill which he had been working. By 1881 was corn miller, employing 9 men, 2 boys. Lived at Cobham Villa, Victoria Rd, as did several men working for him. Attended 1881 International Miller' Exhibition, and continued to adapt and improve the premises. 1887 Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee erected a platform on the cap for his family and friends to view the illuminations. Mill closed in 1922 - Mr Welch apparently advertised it for sale but perhaps this was nearer 1905 when wind part closed down.
