Rob Cumming Inspection, 12/10/1985:- “This interesting building stands close to Salmans Farm, on a private road about one mile west of Penshurst village. It is a three storey brick and weatherboarded building with a gabled roof. No machinery apparently remains, although the iron waterwheel axle about 4ft wide can be seen in place outside. The sluices have disappeared, but the pipe outlet from the large millpond remains. The wheel was overshot, probably about 8ft in diameter. A hop press made by Weeks of Maidstone remains mounted on plinths outside a house nearby. It is possible that this was a farm mill, which would account for its absence from maps, directories, and the Simmons Collection. Opposite the mill is a large wind engine.”
