Built c 1845 as a steam powered stone grinding mill, it was later taken over by Press Brothers, who also owned the nearby High Mill and Greencap Mill. A fire at the mill was prevented in 1884 by the early warning of the then owner of the mill, H H Gambling. It was remodelled and enlarged in 1898 with Whitmore and Binyon machinery, and rebuilt again after a fire in October 1901 with machinery by E R & F Turner.
