According to the Howdenshire History website there used to be a flax mill next door to the old school: '[there] was a factory where they used to scutch ‘line’ or flax. The owner had put in a steam engine to run the scutching machine instead of them having to do it by hand. There had also been a large pond where the flax was soaked.' (Howdenshire History, Memories of Reedness (II) ).
The precise location is not known, but from the description above and the evidence on the 1855 OS map there is what could be a mill race, running alongside Kingdom Lane, and pond near some buildings.
