Post mill, Headington
With two mills in Headington, it is difficult to separate some of the older records. Both mills were in ruins in the 18th century, and one was rebuilt in 1823. Foreman suggests that this mill is probably the post mill with a tail pole and barrel cap which features on a Melchair print from 1771, in the Oxford City Library. In 1820, the mill was painted by Turner, and the site appears on Bryant’s map of 1823 as Windmill Hill.
