Draper’s Mill is the sole survivor of several windmills that once stood in and around Margate. The Grade II* listed smock mill was built in 1845 by John Holman of Canterbury, a well-known millwright. Octagonal in plan, it has a brick base and black-tarred weatherboarding and cap. Unlike many other mills, Draper’s is fortunate to have its original outbuildings still standing, including a workshop and a cart shed which houses a 19th century miller’s cart. The old bakery survives next to the mill as a private residence.
