Upper Mill, Wateringbury

A water-powered corn mill in the historic county of Kent, England.

The mill is Grade Ii Listed and under restoration (2016) and conversion. A three-storey brick building with hipped roof, this mill worked until around 1910 when the waterwheel was replaced by a turbine which was used to power generators. During the 1970's and 1980's the owner has been repairing the structure to the extent that a replacement wheel from Lower Mill, Polegate in East Sussex has been obtained together with other gear from a mill at Storrington at West Sussex. This is slowly being refitted and at present the overshot 16' x 6' wheel is fully operational. The only original machinery surviving from the mill, a corn cleaner and three pairs of millstones, are to be used in the restoration, which by 2007 had stalled.
