Scarlet's Mill worked until c 1905 and was a small white brick and weatherboard building, with two pairs of stones and an oat crusher, driven by an outside iron 8' overshot wheel. It remained complete until c 1956 when the banks of the millpond broke and took the mill away with them. Today some of the retaining walls survive together with the pipe for the overshot wheel. This is also a very important furnace site; excavation here revealed part of the original waterwheel.
This mill had an overshot waterwheel.
