On the River Cole, there is evidence that water mills have occupied the site since the 11th century. The present mill dates from the 18th century and is approximately 250 years old. It was not in working order but was in a fairly complete state of repair in the early 1980s, when the water supply was also good. There was an 11 ft by 5 ft 6 inch metal breast-shot wheel by Philips of Reading. Since then the mill has been brought back to full working order. It is a National trust property.
