A mill has existed on this site since the Domesday Book. The Heygate family took over the mill in the 19th century, converting it from stones to rollers and from water power to steam and then electricity. The mill was rebuilt and expanded after a fire in 1942 and the site is now the headquarters of Heygates Ltd and includes a flour mill and an animal feed mill.
