Chippenham Road Mill, Freckenham

There were two mills in Freckenham in 1292 assessed at 40s. a year so it is possible that the two mills in Freckenham in the 19th-20th centuries were built on the same sites (Callard, 1924, p. 66-7). Flint (1979, p. 123) states that Chippenham Road Mill was built before 1781 and is believed to have been demolished c 1910. Callard (1924, p. 198), however, states that one of the two mills in Freckenham had been dismantled within the last three years. This must be Chippenham Road Mill as the other mill (North Mill) remained standing until 1967 (Flint, 1979, p. 123), which would place the date of its demolition between 1920 and 1924. Dolman (1978, p. 43) noted that the base was still in existence, used as a store.
