In the John O'Groats Journal 24 March 1853 and repeated in the Morning Post, it was stated that Catherine Campbell, wife of D Henderson, labourer, of Dalachlaggie, lost her life whilst sifting meal in the mill. The millstone suddenly broke in two and a piece hit her in the head, laying open her brain. The Sheriff and the Procurator Fiscal were asked to investigate the culpable negligence of the miller, who had left the mill in the charge of boys while there was too great water power on the wheel.
