The Priory Mill was the oldest mill in Worksop, having been included in the Priory Charter of 1160. Around 1820 the stream leading to the mill was dammed to form a large mill pond called the Canch, which eventually bacame polluted enough for the mill to cease operation as a watermill in 1876. The mill was then used as a chair factory until it was destroyed by fire in 1912, and the remains of the wheelhouse can be found in the Memorial Park.
