Linnusmaa Farm Mill, Ojajärvi

This is an extremely small post mill dated 1856. It once had eight sails and a double-tailpole, but these have gone; the sub-structure was completely overgrown with brambles but appeared to be normal. The mill itself was only 18 ft. 9 in. high to the ridge from the ground; the body was 7 ft. 6 in. long by 6 ft. wide and 12 ft. to the ridge. The headwheel on a wooden windshaft had 38 cogs, 4 in. pitch, 2 3/4 in. face, 2 3/4 in. deep; it drove a lantern pinion with eight staves. The centre beam was adjustable. The single pair of stones had a round vat mounted on a plinth, which in turn was mounted on a hurst on the one and only floor. The hopper was slung and there was a trailstick to agitate the shoe. The upright shaft was wood-cased and there was a wood screw and nut for tentering the stones. This was the smallest post mill seen.
