A Jalk Mylly stands hwew with the date 1872 written on the wall inside; it worked until1965. The body of the mill is 10 ft. long by 9 ft. 4 in. wide; the total height is 21 ft. 3 in. The four sails have a total width of 4 ft. 3 in. including the 3 in. by 3 1/2 in. deep whip, and an estimated span of 23 ft. 4 in. They can be chained to the breast of the mill in the lowest position. The four-armed compass headwheel, with 38 teeth, drove a lantern wallower with ten staves mounted on a wood-cased spindle, while the hopper was closed by a removable flat top. A stick in the shoe was hit by a block on the casing of the spindle. Tentering was by wedging the bridgetree to the left-hand side of the post. A shingle-making machine was worked by an iron crank on the tail end of the windshaft inside the body of the mill. The machine itself was supported on a two-rung ladder-like structure, that depended from the left-hand rear corner post.
