Yli-Penttilä Farm Mill, Koskenkorva

This mill stands on its original site; it was built in 1845, and restored in 1958 with faked sails. The body is vertically boarded and, at a short distance in front of the tail beam and thrust bearing, there is an intermediate beam consisting of two balks of timber clamped and held together with keys and cotters of wood; there are upright supports for the beam; at mid-span it forms a journal bearing for the windshaft. The twin tailpoles finish just ahead of it and do not go up beyond the post to the front.
The head wheel is compass-armed and iron-bound; it has 44 round-shanked cogs pinned with wood; it drives a lantern pinion with eight staves. The octagonal windshaft is 16 in. across the flats at the head wheel.
The stone chamber is a tapering octagon, vertically boarded. The bottom of the hollow post is 23 in. square outside, the bottom of the upright shaft is 2 in. in diameter exactly and the driving spindle of wrought iron is 2 in. by 1 1/2 in. exactly. There is a screw-and-nut tentering for the pair of 4 ft. diameter granite stones in an open-topped square casing. The hopper is on a horse, but the shoe-agitating gear, whatever it was, has disappeared.
