The bridge over the Thames at this location has been a significant feature over the centuries. There are records over the years of successive mill sites and associated waterways just above the bridge. The scene of battles in the 12th, 14th and 17th centuries, it is thought the adjacent mill suffered as a result.
This mill had a breastshot waterwheel.
