|A portrait of urban Caribbean slavery in 18th century Bridgetown, Barbados from the perspective of enslaved women.
The author challenges the archives with their fragementary glimpses of the lives of enslaved women and the way their emphasis restricts the infnation readily avaialble and exposes the ongoing effects of white colonial power that constrain what we know about these women. She challenges the way we write histories of vulnerable and often invisible subjects.
