    A survey of the historical development of windmills all over the world. It begins with a detailed introduction dividing windmills into different classes, taking into account the outer housing of the mill, the way the sails face the wind, and the driving mechanism.
    The largest part of the book is devoted to mills in different countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and Australasia. It then looks at the geographical distribution of the main classes and types of windmill, before discussing theories as to the origin and spread of windmills, and considering the subject on the basis of the information in the current book.
    The last two chapters look at the distribution of sail and cap forms.There is an English language summary at the end.The book is illustrated with photos and diagrams.
