Scope & content | This work provides a detailed and well researched survey of the water-mills, waterwheels, mills and mill-sites on the Sheffield Rivers: the Don, the Sheaf; the Porter; the Rivelin; the Loxley; and the Blackburn Brook. Additional material has been sourced in from the Wentworth Woodhouse Muniments that had been made available to the public by the West Yorkshire Archives in the intervening years. The book is divided into sections by river. Each section has a vertical map showing the sites and each site provides a short history including its name(s); owners, companies and industry. An appendix table opens out at the back of the book which provides 'Particulars of water-wheels etc on Rivers Porter and Don, affected by the Wakefield Waterworks Bill, 1874'. There is no contents page or index of mills. |
