Scope & content | Stretham Old Engine was built in 1831 to drain the Fens at Waterbeach Level, Cambridgeshire. This booklet introduces the drainage of the Fens and provides a detailed description of the buildings, the steam engine, and the scoopwheel. There is a scale map of the Waterbeach Level with the steam and pumping stations marked. A cross-section of the buildings and wheelhouse, drawn by P G Norman, is also provided. |
