    Scope & contentThis book is an essay on the account book of Thomas Goldney of Bristol (held at Wiltshire Record Office) as a source for the early history of the steam engine. The account book records his dealings with the ironworks of Abraham Darby at Coalbrookdale in Shropshire, that supplied the engine parts.It also includes chapters on Newcomen engines and the mines in which they were installed in Gloucestershire, Somerset and Cornwall and other sites in Wales, Tyneside, and Scotland. There is a chronological list of the engines and the companies that ordered them.
