Scope & content | A resource pack aimed at teachers to teach their pupils about flour milling and its history, with particular reference to Mill Green Mill in Hertfordshire.Includes a timeline of Mill Green Mill from the tenth century to 1986 when the mill recommenced grinding flour. Contains copied extracts of the 1086 Domesday Book, 1840 estate plans of Mill Green, an 1854 letter to Lord Salisbury about his mills, an 1881 map and census of the Mill Green area, a postcard from 1905, and assorted 19th to 20th century photographs of Mill Green and the surrounding area. Includes sheets on millstone, rollermills and flour milling, sheets explaining wheat origin and production from the Flour Advisory Bureau, drawings of the interior of the mill, a quiz and a bread recipe. Also includes a visitors leaflet for Mill Green Museum and Welwyn Roman Baths and 'A Short History and Guide' of Mill Green Mill. |
