| Scope & content | Summary Translation A detailed history and description of the windmill used to grind the gypsum found on the outskirts of Bad Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein. After various unsatisfactory attempts to break up the gypsum in situ, at the end of the 18th century it was proposed to build either a wind or a horse mill for this purpose. It was not until the 1820s and after many difficulties that a Dutch windmill came into operation. It greatly improved the gypsum production. The text describes the technology and the later improvements as well as the administrative interventions, and its gradual decline and abandonment around the beginning of the 20th century.The mill was finally demolished in 1938, and all that remains are its foundations.The article is illustrated with diagrams. |
