It starts with an overview of the development of mills in general, and in Schleswig-Holstein in particular. The centre-fold is a sketch map of the region, showing the location of its wind and water mills. It ends with a list of 95 mills, with their dates of construction, where known, their names, where applicable, and whether they can be visited. All but five of the windmills are Dutch mills. It notes which mills still turn their sails and recommends 8 water mills as being of particular interest to visitors.
