It traces the history of the Blaenavon Iron Company set up at the North Street Furnaces in 1787 and the social and urban history of the villages created for the workers. Later coal mining began in the valleys to supply the furnaces and by 1900 coal extraction had overtaken the iron and steel works that moved to bigger sites nearer the coast and rivers. |
