    Scope & contentSummary Translation
A look back at the exploitation of wind in Schleswig Holstein, which is now being used in numerous wind parks to generate electricity. In earlier times windmills were used to grind the corn from the fertile soil of the region, reaching a high point in the second half of the 20th century.
The text describes the technical challenges of windmills and their evolution, working backwards to earliest times. The bulk of the book consists of colour photos, with descriptions of the mills illustrated by them, starting with the only surviving windmill used for draining water, and ending with photos of millers’ tombstones, and of modern wind turbines. In addition to the photos, the book also contains some diagrams and maps, including a map of mills on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein as of 1993.
