Scope & contentThis book contains the recollections and family history of the miller, Robert Wilson of Huttoft (1838-1912). It is edited and presented by Gordon Wilson in the context of the lives of the descendants of Robert's grandfather John Wilson who settled in Alford c1810. The book is divided into two sections: Recollections of Robert Wilson which covers the life of a miller within the context of village life, customs, local economy, religion and politics; Commentary: the Wilsons of Huttoft which describes the family history in Huttoft, Alford, North Somercotes and Peterborough. These sections are amply illustrated with photographs and maps. There follows three Appendices which include transcripts of documents found in the HES Simmons Archive at the Science Museum, millwrights accounts, press cuttings, and the biographies and stories of individual family members. At the end of the book are four genealogical charts.
