| Scope & content | This book comprises a series of articles and papers by academics and paper historians on the rise and fall of three paper companies, their history and paper making processes: G T Mandl Holdings Ltd; Fourstones Paper Mill, Hexham, Northumberland, and the history of Thomas & Green of Wooburn Green and paper making in the Wye Valley, Buckinghamshire. Contributors for the history of Fourstones and Thomas & Green include: Dr Julius Grant; Herbert Green; Edward Grierson; Professor Peter C G Isaac; Michael Lambert CBE; G T Mandl; L John Mayes FLA; and John Barcham Sedgwick. The section on Fourstones Paper Mill includes a family tree of the Rumney family who owned the mill from 1763-1852, that was originally founded in 1727 by William Charnley, a Newcastle book seller. The section on Thomas & Green includes a family tree of the Barcham Green papermaking family of Hayle Mill, Maidstone and Soho Mill, Wooburn Green. |
