Scope & content | This book is published in association with the Laxey and Lonan Heritage Trust to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Laxey Glen Mills, Isle of Man. It book provides a detailed history of the Laxey Glen Mill and the people that owned and worked there. From its beginnings as a water-powered mill in 1860, it installed a turbine and roller flour mill machinery. It survived several fires and was brought under the Isle of Man government control from the 1970's to ensure that it remained open and continue to expand and develop. Chapters also include: Foden lorries; the Lamb and Flag symbols on its crest; and a chapter on the milling process from the wheat grown on the island to the flour from the mill. |
