Scope & contentThis booklet contains 38 recipes for traditional British and regional biscuits. It states that the cover pictures are of paintings of Sutton Valance Windmill by J. C. T. Willis, RI and Lower Slaughter Watermill, Gloucestershire by H. Sylvester Stannard, RA. The title page image is a painting of Elmley Castle Watermill, Worcestershire A. R. Quinton. Other illustrations in the book are reproductions of the paintings of: Sturminster Newton Watermill by C. L. Hennah; Windmills by the River Thurne, Norfolk by A. Heaton Cooper; Fairford Watermill, Gloucestershire by H. Sylvester Stannard, RA; Brill Windmill, Buckinghamshire by Sutton Palmer, RI; Old Tide Mill, St Osyth, Essex by Martin Hardie, RI; Malling Windmill, Sussex by Wilfred Ball, RE; Horstead Watermill, Norfolk by Frank Southgate, RBA; Thaxted Windmill, Essex by H.S. Merritt; Houghton Watermill, Huntingdonshire by Sutton Palmer, RI; Cley-next-the-Sea Windmill, Norfolk by Martin Hardie, RI; Guy's Cliffe Watermill, Warwick by E. W. Hazlehurst, RI. All the recipes use Imperial measurements but there is a table of metric conversions at the back.

    • Notes: A separate piece of paper refers to the Kent Mills Group who did some research regarding the cover picture which is not Sutton Valence windmill, as that had a black tarred body and distinctive two storey white painted roundel. After much discussion, it was suggested that the cover painting is of White Mill, Headcorn, a smock mill which was demolished in 1952.
