The history of the post mill in Kottmarsdorf in Upper Lusatia, built in 1843. The text starts with its predecessors, the first of which was destroyed by a storm in 1680, shortly after it was built. The remaining chapters detail the owners, their rights and duties, stories connected with the mill, renovation, the work of the miller, the transfer of another mill to Kottmarsdorf to save it from destruction, the establishment of a café for tourists coming to visit the mills, views of the mill, the advantages of post mills and how they were constructed and stories about the Sorbian folktale hero Pumphut.

Appended to the main text is a glossary of basic mill terms, a list of surviving post mills in Upper Lusatia, sayings about mills, information about how to get to the mill on foot, and explanations of some of the illustrations. The booklet is richly illustrated with photos and diagrams. It contains occasional terms and sentences in the local German dialect.
